(less...) German Regattasegeln ist ein Wettkampfsport, bei dem eine vorher abgestimmte Strecke von zwei (Match Race) oder mehr (Fleet Race) Booten zur selben Zeit befahren wird. Beim Segeln umfasst dieses eine sehr
viel größere Bandbreite als bei anderen Sportarten üblich. Die Dauer eines Wettkampfes kann von Stunden bei Jollenregatten bis zu Monaten bei Hochseeregatten (zum Beispiel Volvo Ocean Race) betragen. In Jollenregatten werden meistens mehrere Wettfahrten in einer Regatta durchgeführt, die Einzelergebnisse werden nach einem vorgeschriebenen Verfahren zusammengefasst und der Gewinner so ermittelt.
