  • What's it all about???
    • This is a utility to interactively create Java-scrolls, titles, buttons etc. You can set the parameters in the left frame and view the result in the right. When you are satisfied you can download the HTML-code and implement it in your page Optionally you can download the Java-class itself, but it's not necessary. In this prerelease however it is recommended to download it, since the java-class will change now and then...

  • What do I need?
    • You will need 32-bit Netscape Navigator 2.0
Maybe works on other configurations too. The java will work on any java-capable browser (I hope...:-) )

  • When will it be available?
    • It IS available and (quite) functional today!.

  • I've created a scroll with JavaMachine and I wonder if I can use it on my homepage.
    • Yes, of course you can.

  • Can I download the whole JavaMachine and use it locally?
    • Yes. There is a ZIP.

  • I've downloaded the JavaMachine but have problems running it. What's wrong?
    • Check that the directory doesn't contain spaces or other strange characters. Be sure you have run the .BAT which renames the class-file to the proper name (rtjmc001.class).

  • Can I use my own graphics for the background?
    • Yes. However, since Java has it's security, you won't be able to see if it works until you run the class from the same domain as the GIF. You will NOT see it while creating it.

  • When will the button work?
    • It works now!

  • Will the java I create suddenly stop working, or will it go on forever?
    • Since this is a prerelease I change the class now and then, so it would be wise of you to download it and use your own copy. That way you can feel safe.

  • I'm having problems downloading the class, what do I do wrong?
    • I haven't got a clue. But I can always mail it to you. But first try downloading it from HERE.

  • I've uploaded the class to my server, but for some reason the browser will not read it. I get an error message (can't run applet applet error java.lang). What do I do wrong?
    • I hate when that happens and I don't know what it can be.
      Try this:

      • Be sure to upload as binary.
      • The filename is casesensitive and must end with .class
      • Check if other Java works from that site.
      • If you type in the url to the Java, Netscape should ask if you want to download it. If it doesn't your server is misconfigured.
      • Check if the filesize on your server with the one you've downloaded.
      • Check if it works from harddisk.
      • Download it from your own server and do a filecompare with the original class.

One trick that usually works is to:
      • rename the file to rtjmc001.gif
      • Upload it to server
      • Rename it on server to rtjmc001.class

      Or if everything else fails:
      • set codebase=http://www.robtex.com/jm/ in <applet>-tag

  • Is it really free? No strings attached?
    • Yes it's free, and I haven't attached any strings yet. (This doesn't mean that you can steal javamachine and claim to be the author, some people actually doesn't understand that!)

  • When will JavaMachine II be released?
    • As soon as possible.

  • What will you do with the guy who has stolen your JavaMachine?
    • Let that be my little secret. There are many thiefs out there.
