Frequently Asked Questions

I was going to write a mail, but I got here instead! Why?

Because I realize now that people doesn't read the FAQ. I can understand that, but please, I beg you...

Why did you write this FAQ?

I received a lot of emails with similar questions, and to minimize bandwidth, you can read the answers here. A FAQ often gives you an answer much faster and easier than mailing a person and waiting for that person to have time to answer.

I can't find your email-address.

It's because you haven't read this FAQ!
The idea is to read this page down to the bottom, to finally discover my email-address.

I wrote you a week ago, why don't you answer?

I probably will soon. Sorry about the delay.

I wrote you a month ago, why don't you answer?

Guess I lost you mail. Sorry. Try again.

Why don't you answer my mail at all?

Perhaps you get auto-sorted in my spam-filter. Try changing the subject, and don't use subjects like "Earn thousands of dollars", "make money quick", "once in a lifetime opportunity", "you've got to see this", "bulk email" or anything resembling a spam.
Don't hesitate to remail if you don't receive an answer.

Do you know a good book I can learn about Java/JavaScript?

Somebody told me I was mentioned in The Complete Idiot's Guide to JavaScript. So I guess either I'm an idiot, or that's a good book.
A good book I do know is Designing with JavaScript: Creating Dynamic Web Pages by Nick Heinle published by O'Reilly. I've read it and it has lots of interesting stuff in it, structured in a nice way, complete with examples and a nice index of JavaScript-properties for both Explorer and Netscape. Very good book indeed and comes with a CD. Even I learned a thing or two from this book :)
Regarding other stuff like Java,PERL,C++, I currently don't know what to recommend.

Can I hire you for a job, developing in C++/Java/JavaScript/PERL...?

Sure, but I'm not so cheap.

Can I set up SuperSearch on my own homepage?

Not for the moment. Check back later.

Why does the computer always win in your NIM-game?

Because it's smarter:-). No, It really does NOT win all the time. The goal is to get the XOR between two tiles equal to the third. e.g: (4,6,2) (0,5,5) a.s.o If you're not familiar with XOR, you can use normal addition. Won't work perfectly though.

I have problems with the JavaMachine

Have you read the FAQ for this?

I am wondering which program you used to program your java applets, and which you think may be good too...

I use an ordinary texteditor, currently Programmer's File Editor and Suns Java SDK.
PFE is also what I use for all other stuff as well. Currently I'm using it to write this.
There are many nice IDE's out there, but I like to keep it simple and under control.

Can I get the sourcecode for...?

What??? Not for free at least...

Can I have the source-code for NIM?

I normally don't give away source-codes, but since it is JavaScript, all you have to do is to view the source.

Why do you no longer allow using the rtjmc001.class (JavaMachine) from your server?

www.robtex.com 'only' has a T1-connection to the internet, and due to the popularity of JavaMachine, I had to do something to allow other traffic as well.

What does 'Robban' mean?

It's kind of the Swedish version of 'Bob', for 'Robert'. If you think Robban sounds silly in your language, you don't have to call me that. It hasn't got anything to do with neither of the verbs 'rob' nor 'ban'.

Can I link to your page?

Can you help me with a schoolproject I'm working on?
Can you write a java for me...?
Can you teach me how to...?

Generally I don't have spare time. It all depends on what you have to offer in return. Usually this means money :) . If it is a question you think I can answer with a sentence or two, go ahead.

I've read this FAQ and want to write you an email anyway. Will you get mad?
